The position will be responsible for the ongoing service and support of UNIX servers and their associated equipment, storage and backup solutions, along with potential for involvement in key deployment projects related to the platform.
SCOPE OF WORK
Assigned Responsibilities
The position will report directly to the IST Specialist (Computer Center Administration), of the Office of Information Systems and Technology (OIST). The primary tasks and activities of the position are:
Work in the Unix team as a system administrator, providing 2nd level UNIX system support.
Works effectively to escalate/resolve issues using agreed processes.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
Follows IT governance processes used in the company (ie. executes Change Requests, Incident Management)
Install, set-up, and maintain Unix/Linux enterprise systems and related equipment.
Install, set-up, and maintain third-party or open-source software that are part of the core IT infrastructure (ie. backup and recovery system, Cognos, Apache)
Implementation of OS and Application Patches following the agreed processes.
Work in a shift roster.
Perform the sys admin tasks either from HQ or remotely from the company’s facility in Clark.free zone.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in administration, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting UNIX/Linux system environments
Hands-on experience working with UNIX/Linux infrastructure and associated hardware.
At least 2 years’ experience as a technical support engineer person in UNIX/Linux enterprise environment
Relevant experience in providing back-end support to other technical support teams
Relevant experience in installing and supporting UNIX/Linux-based applications such as Apache, Tomcat, Postfix, LDAP, MySQL.
Experience in scripting and automation in a UNIX/Linux environment
Familiarity with Linux security
Familiarity with system monitoring tools
Familiarity Jumpstart/kickstart,
Familiarity with MS Windows 7 Enterprise and earlier
Preference will be given to:
Certified UNIX/Linux Engineer
Relevant working experience in a controlled enterprise environment and familiarity with ITIL framework
Knowledge of system and network security, including knowledge of standards, policies, and technologies
Familiarity with SVN, JIRA, IBM and ORACLE products
